: To anyone who is listening,
: In February my Mom was diagnosed with rectal cancer that metasized to her liver. She was told by her doctor that she has 6 to 8 months to live, (but in privacy to my brother, the doctor said probably 3 or 4 months). Up until now she has been doing pretty well, but I feel that the cancer is beginning to progress. My family has never experienced the effects of cancer and are not quite sure what to expect in the next few months. Hospice will be coming next week, but we will be her primary caregivers, and she has asked me to be her Medical Power of Attorney. Can someone help us with some kind of insight to the future. She is very independent and does not easily share any problems or complications that she is experiencing. She dealt with the complications of the rectal cancer for about 3 years without telling any of us. When the pain became unbearable and she almost died, she allowed me to take her to the doctor.
: Thanks for listening!
There is a wonderful booklet that Hospice gave me when my Mother first got help from them. Its called Gone From My Sight by Barbara Karnes. I wish I had read it months before. It answers so very many questions. Ask your hospice nurse for a copy, she may have it. I know this is a hard time for you. My Mother passed away on Monday. She lived 8 months after her diagnosis of lung cancer. Trust me, you won't regret taking care of your Mother, you will have such special moments with her!
God's Peace to you and your family.
