: I have just come from the hospital from seeing my Mom (age 72) NSCLC Stage IV, from all the tests
: that have been taking it seems that the tumor is growing around the heart, that is why she is having so
: much trouble breathing. So between the lung cancer and heart both major organs affected. They will
: begin radiation today, the radiologist said the first time is the longest because they have to get the
: specs right and he said it would take about 1 hour laying down, after that she will receive for the next 2
: weeks and it will only take about 5 minutes. He said you do not get results right away, but he was hoping
: that by Friday night, they may be able to tell (something?) by listening to her breathing. I asked him if
: this was a one shot deal and he said yes, as they can not continue to radiate the heart if the tumor were
: to grow back. I guess I have couple of questions regarding this #1 - Has anyone gone through or known
: someone who had a tumor growing around the heart and what was there outcome. #2 - For those of you
: that have had radiation, does what was explained to me sound correct?
: They also have told my Mom to remain in her bed as last night when she got up to go to the bathroom,
: she had a dizzy spell and fell, hit her head and twisted her knees.
: Thank you all in advance

At least with radiation your mom will get some relief when the tumor starts shrinking. My sister had NSCLC and the radiation help to shrink the tumor in her lung and it also helps the pain.My sister passed away 5 months after being diag. She did not have chemo. I will keep you and your mom in my prayers.>> Ruth
