In Reply to: What happens after Chemo and Radiation? posted by Stewart on June 02, 2000 at 13:53:24:

: Hello,

: First a much be-lated thanks to the wonderful people who answered my post in April God Bless to everyone here.

: My mother has been told that because her plateletts are shot they can no longer do chemo therapy, (small cell lung cancer). She will be starting radiation. And she is afraid that radiation is the end....is it? What happens if the radiation doesn't work. Much thanks....Stewart.
My mother has small cell lung cancer too. she is currently in remission, and in a lung cancer trial. her counts went down too low several times in chemo and the chemo had to be stopped untill her count went up again. the time she had the most severe problem, she had a blood transfusion. her doctors said chemo could stop but not more than 4 weeks. the radiation worked extremly well for her. small cell is extremly sensetive to radiation. she had several large tumors around her bronchus, and now there is no visible sign of them. ask your mother's doctors if they could just wait a while. she had four courses of chemo and three weeks of radiation. how many courses has your mom had so far
