: : On April 5, 2000 my mother found out she has small cell cancer of the right lung and broncial tubes. She is 74 and does not want to go through the Chemo which the doctor said will not cure her anyway. It would only prolong her life a little more. So mom says NO she does not want to spend her time left here on this earth being sick with Chemo. We respect her decision however hard that will be for us. Just two weeks after finding out about
: : the cancer she then found she has an aneruism in her left brain. She began having a severe cough shortly before the cancer diagnosis and had gotten worse until I gave her a humidifier to use. This has helped alot. Right now she says she is no pain and is still getting around fairly well. She tires very easily and her appetite is not good. I guess I just needed someone else to hear mom's story. I know there is nothing left to do but pray and hope that
: : she won't have to suffer to much or to long. Like a lot of doctors now, he would give us no time limit on mom. But from all research I have found without treatment the average life span is 1-3 months. I would appreciate any feedback you might have here.
: I just wanted to update mom a little. She started on oxycontin 20mg 5-24-2000 for pain. After only three days on this she became very sick to her stomach, weak, dizzy and extremely exhausted. My sister and I paid another visit to the onc. and he gave her some meds for the sickness. She was to take these every 4 hours as needed. She is now able (6-2-2000) to get by with no more than two of these a day. We also got her signed up with Hospice. The
: pain meds were very expensive ($40 a week). With Hospice medicare will now pay for all the meds pertaining to the cancer. This was a real relief to my mother who is on SS. She tires very easily and sleep alot now. But she is pain free so that is a blessing. I knew she had only been putting off getting them because of the cost. But that is all taken care of now. God bless each of you for your continued support. Maggie
I am so glad your Mom isn't in any pain. I forgot to tell you that my sister also got very sick to her stomach and had to take meds for that. Oh how I wish they could find a cure for all cancers, because it is such a dreadful didease.I hope and pray that you mom continues to have no pain and I'm happy that you are in touch with Hospice. Maggie, you, your mom and family are in my prayers. God Bless >> Ruthie
