: : : my mother has small cell lung cancer and is being offered topotecan chemotherapy instead of brain radiation after her therapy is complete to guard aginst brain metasasis. usually this is being used on small cell when it returns. has anyone out there been treated with topotecan for small cell lung cancer. need help to make a decesion
: : Do you mind if I ask what treatment your Mother has had? What stage? My Mother has stage IIIB.
: my mother has limited stage small cell. she is in the middle of treatments with cisplatin and etopside, they may switch her to carboplatin because she has had toxic effects from cisplatin. she also had 2x a day radiation at the same time as we discovered in small cell it improves chances of survival.(i don't know about non small cell) after lst round while it is in remission we are going to get her into a clinical trial, probably a vaccine, or treatment with topotecan. haven't made up our minds yet
My dad has recurrent sclc. The cancer is still contained in his lung (as far as they can tell) He
is on a trial- pill form of topotecan. The first scan showed that both mass's had reduced in size. He will have another scan ran in three weeks. Keep him in your prayers! Melva
