: I AM HAVEING THE HARDEST TIME DEALING WITH MY OLDEST SISTERS LUNG CANCER.WE FOUND OUT TWO WEEKS AGO THAT SHE EVEN HAD CANCER. WE SHORTLY FOUND OUT LATER THAT WEEK THAT IT WAS SO FAR SPREAD THAT THE ONLY THING WE COULD DO WAS PAIN MANAGEMENT.HOSPICE HAS STEPPED IN TO HELP US AND SHE IS AT HOME FOR HER FINAL DAYS.THIS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST TWO WEEKS OF MY LIFE. I HAVE DEDICATED MY TIME TO TAKING CARE OF MY SISTER AND BEING STRONG FOR MY MOTHER AND FOUR OTHER SISTERS GET THROUGH THIS DIFFICUALT TIME.VICKIE IS THE OLDEST SISTER AND SHE IS IN SO MUCH PAIN. IF ONLY THERE WAS SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE I COULD DO TO MAKE HER FEEL BETTER. HER TWO BOYS TROY 11 YRS OLD, AND TRAVIS 10 YRS OLD, KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BUT HAVENT GRASPED THAT SHE IS GOING TO DIE SOON.I HAVE TAKEN THE POSITION OF THE MAIN CARE GIVER AND AT THEAGE OF 21 I HAVE DECIDED TO BECOME A NURSE FOR THE TERMINALLY ILL AND HOPE THAT WE CAN FIGHT THE BATTLE AGAINST CANCER.NOT JUST LUNG CANCER BUT ALL CANCER. I HAVE DONE MY BEST TO COMFORT MY SISTER AND BE THERE FOR HER, AS WELL AS THE REST OF MY FAMILY.I JUST WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHAT MORE I COULD DO TO EASE HER PAIN. MAYBE SOME WORDS OF COMFORT THAT I HAVENT OFFERED COULD HELP OR MAYBE EVEN A POEM ABOUT DYING AND HOW IT IS OK WOULD HELP. IF YOU HAVE ANY WORDS OF WISDOME TO OFFER OR EVEN JUST A WARM THOUGHT, THAT I COULD SHARE WITH HER.I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL.
Please read the journal of Cathy Hainer. You can find in by searching on Cathy Hainer or by going to the USATODAY website.
Cathy Hainer was a USATODAY reporter and kept a journal of her fight with breast cancer. In one of her journals she recalls a poem
a friend gave to her. It is beautiful and it definately made me think of death from a different perspective. I have a feeling it will make
you feel better. You may even want to read it to your sister.
