: I AM HAVEING THE HARDEST TIME DEALING WITH MY OLDEST SISTERS LUNG CANCER.WE FOUND OUT TWO WEEKS AGO THAT SHE EVEN HAD CANCER. WE SHORTLY FOUND OUT LATER THAT WEEK THAT IT WAS SO FAR SPREAD THAT THE ONLY THING WE COULD DO WAS PAIN MANAGEMENT.HOSPICE HAS STEPPED IN TO HELP US AND SHE IS AT HOME FOR HER FINAL DAYS.THIS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST TWO WEEKS OF MY LIFE. I HAVE DEDICATED MY TIME TO TAKING CARE OF MY SISTER AND BEING STRONG FOR MY MOTHER AND FOUR OTHER SISTERS GET THROUGH THIS DIFFICUALT TIME.VICKIE IS THE OLDEST SISTER AND SHE IS IN SO MUCH PAIN. IF ONLY THERE WAS SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE I COULD DO TO MAKE HER FEEL BETTER. HER TWO BOYS TROY 11 YRS OLD, AND TRAVIS 10 YRS OLD, KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BUT HAVENT GRASPED THAT SHE IS GOING TO DIE SOON.I HAVE TAKEN THE POSITION OF THE MAIN CARE GIVER AND AT THEAGE OF 21 I HAVE DECIDED TO BECOME A NURSE FOR THE TERMINALLY ILL AND HOPE THAT WE CAN FIGHT THE BATTLE AGAINST CANCER.NOT JUST LUNG CANCER BUT ALL CANCER. I HAVE DONE MY BEST TO COMFORT MY SISTER AND BE THERE FOR HER, AS WELL AS THE REST OF MY FAMILY.I JUST WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHAT MORE I COULD DO TO EASE HER PAIN. MAYBE SOME WORDS OF COMFORT THAT I HAVENT OFFERED COULD HELP OR MAYBE EVEN A POEM ABOUT DYING AND HOW IT IS OK WOULD HELP. IF YOU HAVE ANY WORDS OF WISDOME TO OFFER OR EVEN JUST A WARM THOUGHT, THAT I COULD SHARE WITH HER.I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL.
This is like a rerun for me because I lost my sister to non small lung cancer Nov. 1998. She only lived 5 months after being diag. my sister was older, 64. My sister had radiation but the cancer had already spread. Angela your sisters regular M.D. can perscribe some good pain meds for your sister and if one thing doesn't work tell her Dr. she needs something stronger. We made sure my sister wasn't in any pain.Morphine is good. Your post sounds so much like what me and my other sisters went through when my sister was so ill. There were 5 of us taking care of my sister. Your sister sounds so young to be going through this, but we never know, do we. My thoughts and prayers goes out to your family and sister. I feel so sad for her little children. My sister died at home, and she had very small grand children, but they understood. Angela, the only thing I can say, is get some very strong pain meds and keep your sister as comfortable as possible.Be there for her. You are doing all of the right things. We feel helpless in a situition like this, I've been there. God Bless... Ruth
