: : Ive been diagnosed with barretts esophogus..what can i do that will alter cellular tissue change now...
: Hi Vickie, I too have been diagnosed with
: barretts esophogus. I was diagnosed about two years ago. I go for a yearly endoscopy to see
: how the condition is, and I am taking
: prevacid once a day to keep from getting any heartburn.
: When you say, "what can i do that will alter cellular tissue", are you asking what will cure the barretts condition? As far as I know, the damage is not reversible. The only thing which I was told by my doctor was to take the prevacid to prevent further damage, and also to go for a yearly checkup (endoscopy) to see how the esophogus looks. Also, to watch what you eat to prevent acid reflux. I'm due for another checkup next month.
: Has your doctor suggested anything else other then what my doctor said?
mike, there is an interesting article on your condition on the site oncollink, it quotes a study on which and how it is possible to predict if barrets espahagus will advance to cancer your doctor might find it quite useful.look for it in the last few days in their "cancer news" section.
