: My Father died of cancer 18 years ago. 4-Years ago one of my sisters died of cancer. 1 1/2 years ago my mother died of cancer. This year my outher sister died of cancer. When does it stop!
I'm very sorry to hear about the losses of lives that you have experienced in your family due to cancer. I lost my mother to cancer 26 years ago. She was only 47 years old. Because of that, it has made me aware of the suffering that cancer patients have to go through. I'm now an advocate of living better with a changed lifestyle.
There are some that believe that cancer is caused, at least in part, to our poor lifestyle in the United States. With a sedentary life with little exercise, and piles a junk food, we are a nation of people that increasingly is getting cancer. I don't believe the reasons are exactly understood, but there is some link to diet.
In other countries, with a healthier diet etc., cancer is rare. They may have other health problems, but cancer is low on their list. For us cancer is high on the list, where it is believed that one out of three Americans will get cancer sometime in their lifetime. That's too high of a statistic!!! The treatment of cancer can be awful painful.
I feel that it is important to change your diet to a balanced one that is high in natural non-processed fruits and vegetables. Also, I have found that whole grains such as wheat berries, brown rice, millet, and oats are very good too. Cooking with natural foods is not only better for you, but can also be very economical.
The challenge is to get those natural foods to taste good too. For example, with my millet cereal, I add a mixture of milk and two bananas that have been mixed in the blender. It makes a yummy treat that is healthy for you too. Another example of a sweet treat that is very wholesome is apple pie made without any processed sugar or unnatural additives. I make the crust from my wheat berries (and eggs and milk etc.) and fill the pie pan with apples. It's so good that you could almost feel guilty eating it. You could eat the whole thing and really it wouldn't be dessert, but could be your main meal!!!
Those are just a few examples. There are many books out there written to help us change to living a healthier life. We should be focusing on preventative care, where we don't get cancer in the first place!!! It's sad that the emphasis by our U.S. medical system is early diagnosis and treatment. Let's emphasize first prevention and then look at the other areas of importance!!!
