In Reply to: My mom is 43 and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 9-12 months to live! posted by Jessica on August 08, 2000 at 21:57:59:

: Hello, My name is Jessica and we just found out a week ago that my 43 year old mother has pancreatic cancer. She was given 9-12 months to live. The doctor said that the tumor is wrapped around a major artery and it is going through blood vessels. They rerouted her intestines so that she can eat and go to the bathroom normaly. The tumor was pressing them so tight that she was having liver problems. If anyone has any remedies or any good stories I need to hear them. She is my mother and my best friend. I am 23 and I have 2 younger brothers, 9 and 7 who still don't know! I am having a really hard time dealing with this and I need your help. So please any info or great stories e-mail them to me directly at Richardnjess@aol.com I will check my e-mails daily. Thank You in advance for any help. Jessica

jessica, you'll get all sorts of people who will try to tell you this or that works. you already know what traditional chemotherapy offers her. besides traditional there are drugs in "clinical trial" one is doing extremly well it is called rubetican. the latest thing is they have combined that with traditional chemo drugs "gemzar" i think, and have even put some into remission. i would reccomedn putting that into your search engine and finding where the trials are going on. you will also get people try to tell you to take this or do this, your mother is not in a position to mess around with things that don't work. if for some reason she wonld be ineligible for this, there are other good clinical trials going on that more than exceed what regular chemo can offer. the national cancer institue 1-800-4-cancer will send you a print out on all the clinical trials going on wherever you want to look. good luck.
