: We are trying to find out the best cancer center for small cell lung carcinoma. Thank you...
Janet, I was treated for SCLC with six months of chemotherapy. It was explained to me that chemo is particularly effective against this cancer because it is fast-growing and chemo targets fast-growing cells in particular. As to which centers are best, it depends where you live. In the NewYork area, Sloan Kettering is said to be best. For Boston, Dana Farber, in Texas, Anderson Clinic. But also the large teaching hospitals with top reputations are also good. Be sure to find an oncologist who has considerable experience with this type of lung cancer. Only 20 percent of lung cancers are this type. I wish you luck. Please do not delay in getting treatment. It's important to get to an ocologist right away--the sooner you get treatment, the better your chances. I have been in remission---and in excellent health---for five years after finishing chemo, so I know chemo can work. Some doctors feel a combination of chemo and radiation is best.
