: if lymph nodes are negative and cancer was less
: than 1 inch in size why do surgeon send you to
: an oncology doctor? wouldn't if be best to just
: send you to a radilogical oncology doctor? this
: would save time and speed up the treatment process

I am new to these boards so I hope you are not bothered by the intrusion here...I have read th posts here...and I will just add here what happened with me. My tumor was also small,a little over 1cm, "node negative" and the surgeon got "clean margins". My surgeon told me that without chemotherapy after, or before radiation leaves a 33% chance that this could come back on me in a 10 year time span. I wasn't crazy about having to deal with this again..so I did whatever it took to get the best results that I could get.
I had 33 radiation treat.(may-july'99) I also had chemo 6 cycles over 6 months time starting in August'99..finishing up on 1-14-00.

All my doctors were Oncologists of a sort. Surgeon is Surgical Oncologist. Then I saw Radiation Oncologist and the a Medical Oncologist who over saw my chemo treats.
Obviously it is up to the individual person what tey want to do, or think they can do. I can say now that the chemo treats are over..they weren't as bad as I imagined they would be.

I was told by Radiation Oncologist the radiation treat, only take care of the breast tissue and area where the tuomr was removed..as at least 25 f mine were directed at the whole breast and the last 8 are what they call "boosts" which are directe right at the site where the tumor were removed.
I am going to say something here not to be mean..but more as an observation about a statement that was made here....
Believe me having gone through this I would have taken the easiest way to get this done and over with if it was the right thing to do....BuT, having said that? Fast is not always the best way to do this..
Only your respective doctors can help you decide that based on what's going on with you. But I would want what was *best* not necessarily what was the fastest. Hope I have noy offended anyone, that was certainly noy my intention. I don't know how old any of you are in here...but anyone faily young should be as agressive as possible, as for sone reason the younger you are the more open you are to reccurrance. I don't think any of us want to do this again..if we don't have to...Take care all & be well thanks for having me, Annie
