:To Kim and others with Barretts Esophogus... Husband had problems with acid for years. The heartburn became so bad that finally he convinced a doctor to do tests. That resulted in the diagnosis of Barrett's Esophogus. Choking in his sleep and awaking because the acid came up into his throat. After doing much of our own searching we learned more. Do not eat acidic foods. Avoid caffein. Sleep with the bed elevated or purchase a wedge to put on top of your side of the bed etc..... His Barretts progressed to dysplasia.( a precancerous condition ) We were very scared. His Gastroenterologist said it would kill him within 3 years. He said there was only one option and it would NOT save his life. I was not willing to accept that. My strong suggestion to anyone who gets this nasty disease is to contact Dr. B. Overholt in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is the leading authority on Photodynamic Therapy. There are people there at the Fellowship Center near the Thompson Cancer Survival Center that will help with everything from possible housing and food....to emotional support. I know because I was there too. My husband does NOT have Barrett's Esophogus nor does he have dysplasia!!!! He also had a stomach twist done and a new flap was made. He still must not eat late...drink alcohol Hi - could someone please tell me the syptoms of Barrett's esophogus. THANKS!
