: My 30 yr old daughter was diagnosed with Barretts esophogus and she acted as if it were no big deal. Is this true? She used the term Barretts Syndrome.. Would someone please explain to me what this is and the cure. I have no clue. Thank you.

its a disorder in which there are celluar changes due to chronic irritation and inflamation of the reflux oesophogus. the diagnosis is made by biopsy of the mucuosa . some of the things that sometime might help is to avoid fatty foods and alchol and lay flat after eating. she can treat the pain with antacids.the biggest thing as she already probably knows is she now has to be followed very closely for cancer of the oesphogis.
