: My grandmother a breast cancer survivor, was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus in February 2000. Her chemotherapy and radiation treatment reduced the cancer down to 97%. She was doing pretty well about 3weeks ago. For the past week she has been in alot of pain originating for her back. My grandmother was in so much pain that she stayed up for 4 days in one of her dining room chairs because she could'nt breath while lying down. When she did attempt to stretch out in the bed she was breath sounds were like the death rattle. I think it's called Kussmals. We called and nagged her doctor yesterday until he finally agreed to see her. I think he believed that some of her pain was in her mind. Now pain medications are morphine, hydrocodone, and advil. He thinks the cancer is in her bones now. I was told the doctor wants to perform some kind of bone scan(x-ray). I thought the proceedure was a biopsy of the bone marrow. Is there such an exam as bone scan to detect cancer without a bone marrow biopsy. Also, can the cancer move from the esophagus to the back bones and ribs? Any information will be truelly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
