I was recently diagnosed with Barretts Esophogus and am looking for more info about the condition. What I have read though indicates a much larger chance of developing esophogeal cancer with Barretts.
Once the malignancy develops it is very hard to stop and often moves fast. If treatment or surgery is performed before malignancy the chances are greater for recovery.
