My mother has a tumor on her pancreas, she has lost a tremendous amout of weight, she's not eating, losing her voice, and has no bowel movement. She's scheduled for surgery, The doctor's say they won't know if it is cancerous until they actually open her up. First they said it was just a mass of fat growing on her pancreas. Now they don't know. She's also diabetic. This is a problem right!
: : MY HUSBAND RECENTLY HAD A CAT SCAN BECAUSE HE HAD ULCER LIKE PAINS IN HIS STOMACH AND HIS UPPER BACK FELT LIKE SOMETHING WAS PULLING/PAIN ETC.
: : THE SCAN CAME UP WITH A PANCREAS TUMOR ON THE HEAD OF THE PANCREAS. WE HAVE AN APP'T WITH A VERY GOOD DR AT SLOAN KETTERING, NYC ON TUES. THE WAITING IS KILLING US. OTHER THAN THE BACK PAIN AND STOMACHE DISCOMFORT, MY HUSBAND FEELS FINE. HIS BOWELS ARE GOOD, GOOD APPETITE, NO JAUNDICE.... THE GASTROENTEROLIGST WE WENT TO THIS WEEK RECOMMENDED TO GO TO SLOAN BECAUSE HE FEELS EVEN IF IT IS NOT CANCER, IT IS A SERIOUS OPERATION AND THEY ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE WHIPPLE PROCEDURE. AFTER READING UP ON PANCREAS CANCER SYMTOMS IT APPEARS MY HUSBAND WOULD HAVE MORE SYMPTOMS IF IT WAS CANCER. CAN ANYONE TELL ME THERE EXPERIENCE WITH THERE INTIAL SYMPTOMS OF PANCREATIC CANCER. THE DR'S ARE VERY SURPRISED HE IS NOT JAUNDICE DUE TO THE TUMOR(RUBBER BALL SIZE) AT THE HEAD OF THE PANCREAS. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
: Jaon, hope and pray that it is not cancerous. But unfortunately, most (BUT NOT ALL) tumors in the pancreas are cancerous. My Mom went through the same scenerio about 4 months ago. We prepaared for the worst news, but prayed for the best. Unfortunately, hers was cancerous with mets to the liver. The two symptoms that stood out were her weight loss and jaundice. Maybe since your husband has no "real" cancer symptoms, the tumor may be non-cancerous. Even if it is cancerous, hopefully it has been caught before it has spread.
: Keep your head high and hope and pray for the best next week. Joe
