: Hello. I am seeking any advise anyone may have with caring for a loved one (my husband) while trying to hold down a full time job, raise two children, and do all the household chores, etc. I am finding it nearly impossible to keep up with everything. I feel like I am going to explode inside. I have tried to talk with my husband about getting someone to help me out, but he is totally against it saying not only do we not have the money but he doesn't want to pay for something we can do ourselves. The only problem is he is battling cancer, which has been making him extremely ill and unable to help out. Plus he has been hospitalized several times and needs to be transported back and forth to his treatments as he can not drive himself. Has anyone been in this type of position? If so, what did you do to survive it? Thank you so much for responding.
I was a CNA for 3 years and now I am a nurse, much of my work has been in nursing homes and hospice. If your husband's main problem with getting a home health aid is cost, it may not be so bad as you think. Often times insurance companies and MEDICAID will help with some of the cost of a home care giver. If you don't hire a home health aide through an agency, it would save you there as well. Often, if you put out a private ad, CNA's or HHA's will take the jobs for anywhere from $6-$8 an hour. If your husband is on medicaid, you could look into it, or contact your insurance company. I hope your husband recovers from this, but if he is terminal, Hospice is a wonderful organization as well. Good Luck to you!
