: OUR MOTHER HAD A STROKE 3 YEARS AGO, AND WE HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE STAY WITH HER 24 HOURS A DAY. I WOULD LOVE SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO KEEP HER MOTIVATED AND TO GET HER TO TRY TO HELP HERSELF. SHE WALKS WITH A WALKER AND WE HAVE TO PUT A BRACE ON HER LEG. SHE HAS NO DESIRE TO TRY TO USE HER RIGHT ARM SHE NEGLECTS IT ALL THE TIME AND WE CAN'T GET HER TO EVEN TRY TO EAT WITH IT OR NOTHING. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO GET HER TO TRY HARDER AND TO NOT NEGLECT HER RIGHT ARM. ALSO HER LEGS HURT AND DRAW AT NIGHT AND WE HAVE TO SIT AND RUB HER FEET FOR HOURS UNTIL OUR FINGERS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE FALLING OFF, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO FOR THIS PROBLEM? HELP! Have you spoken with her doctor about her legs hurting at nite--it could be a lack of electrolytes or vitamins in her system or a neuropathy of some sort--is she diabetic? AS for her right arm--I just saw a news report that talked about restraining the good arm and retraining the problem one. I don't know where I saw it though--sorry.
