: My father recently died of kidney cancer, which had spread into the abdominal area and lungs. At the moment of death, there was a large gush of blackish liquid from his mouth and nose. As he died at home, and there were no medical staff there at the time, we were all very distressed by this. Can anyone please explain what this liquid was, and was it likely that he had already died when this took place or did death follow this expulsion of blackish liquid?
: Thank you!: Jo, I hope there is a Dr. that see your message. I am a retired nurse, and the cases I have see, this happens. When death occurs, the body shuts down all systems. Usually, the bowels are emptied, plus there can be emptying through other orfices. The liquid sounds as tho it was occult blood and gastric jucies mixed.
Please accept my sympathy to you and your family in the passing of your father. God Bless.
