Pallitive Care for Mouth Cancer

I have a very close friend who has mouth cancer primary tumour is on the tongue, that has spread to other areas. The approach is Pallitive Care only..because of other problems that I will not go into. He is aware that he is dying and I suspect we are talking weeks here.
We can not seem to get any information on what can happen with this cancer.
I work in a Home for the Aged so have witnessed death, but have never seen this type of cancer before.
