More than one type of surgery?

I have an appointment next week with a neurologist about CTS surgery. My case is in right hand only, appears to be caused by using the mouse, and is far advanced. Because of a spliced nerve (congenital), I never had pain. This caused the CTS to progress way past the point where treatment is usually sought. From reading posts on this board, I gather there is more than one kind of surgery. Which would be best for a severe case? And would I be crazy to resume my computer job afterwards? Thanks!
