: My daughter had a bad fall over Mardi Gras (early March) been to a hand doctor ever since - he has tried several diagnosis. she is now in hand therapy - but has had problems with hand falling asleep, tingling, sometime including the pinky finger and palm. Therapists said CTS - Earlier nerve tests by the elbow (i think) showed some inflammation of some nerves - doc said not bad enought for surgery - but now this - what is this ulnar nerve thing and what is done about it - what do ya'll think?
hello robin the ulnar controls sensations to the pinky and ring fingers and sometimes half of the middle finger...and the palm on the ring and pinky side....if your daughters palm is numb on that side..i would say she has a problem with the ulnar nerve...what is done about it depends...on how bad it is...if it gets too bad then permenant nerve damage may accure..she needs to have a EMG done to find out which nerve it is...i had to have the surgery...my problem began in may had to have the surgery in sept...because i tried splints...i had the coritzone shots...nothing worked for me..not saying it wont for your daughter....a month before surgery i couldn't even crumble a peice of newspaper without being in severe pain...i am almost one year post-op...still have slight numbness in the pinky and ring fingers mainly in the pinky....but the pain is gone..so like i said don't let go on too long...if you have anymore questions you can e-mail me at LUV2Whales@juno.com...take care now diane
