I was totally debilitated with the same symptoms and was told it was in my head for many years...a rhematologist told me in 27 years practice he had never seen such pain sensitivity, which was way lower than even fibromyalgia, which is pretty low...it was actually so-called low grade hypothyroidism.
So-called because the truth is there is no way to measure what any one individual needs of thyroid, and lab vlues are not a true standard for an individual's needs.
Insist on tests for hypothyroidism, and don't take no for an answer. If they seem negative to the doctor, then insist on a TRH (not the ususal TSH test)or thyroid releasing hormone test. It is done by shots at intervals and blood tests to measure thyroid levels in the blood. This reveals underlying thyroid imbalance. But you still may have to insist on trying thyroid replacement.
For some reason, many doctors are resistant to diagnosing or treating this problem. My PCP admits he does not know enough about it to deal with it. Then one has to have a specialist, an internal medicaine doc that specializes in thyroid, or an endocrinologist.

Fight for waht is your right to treatment!

See the Thyroid Board for support, but about.com/thyroid is the most informative and has many medical articles archived for information.
