: For the past couple of months I have been getting very sharp pains going down my arm but not into to my hand. When I get one, I will drop whatever is in my hand. My hand automatically opens up. I am not familiar with carpal tunnel syndrome, but I thought it occurs in the hand or arm that you always use. I am right handed, and this only occurs in my left arm. Does this sound like carpal tunnel syndrome? I have not gone to the doctor yet but would like to know what to expect. sorry, but this doesnt sound like CTS to me. You would have the pain in your fingers and wrist of the hand you are using. Carol
