AND COUNTING,PAIN MED ADDICTION.......DO I NEED TO SAY MORE????? SEE A HAND SPECIALIST ONLY;HE WILL NOT ONLY DO THE BEST JOB; YOU WILL KNOW IF YOU REALLY NEED IT DONE BEST OF LUCK DIANNE,............TIM

I had carpal tunnel release surgery (endoscopic method)on 11/20/00. My median nerve was severed 3/4 of the way through. I also had a second surgery to repair the nerve - I was told this is a wait and see thing at least 9 - 10 months. I am in a cast for the next 3 weeks and possibly another one after this - so the nerve can heal. I do not know how much of my hand is totally gone. The pain of the second surgery is up there on the scale with childbirth. I have all the pain meds I could possibly want but choose to go lightly and sit most of the time in pain for fear of an addiction. Not to mention the psycological side of it - isolation, dependency. My advise is to try chiropractic or massage therapy first. If this is not an option I would get the open hand surgery it may take longer to heal but at least you will heal. (They can see the nerve in the open hand type surgery). Best of luck to you.
