: : : I would suggest you leave a message here on this CTS message board requesting anyone that's had successful surgery to e-mail you and tell you about it. I'd be surprised if you could find more than a few people, and even then I don't think they have full use of their wrist. Try it - you might be surprised what you'll learn. Doctors have one thing in mind, getting you into surgery and the only thing they suggest before cutting up your wrist is shooting you up with cortisone shots or prescribing prednisone which are both terrible for you. Check out these two sites and see what they say about prescription anti-inflammatories - http://www.capederm.com/info_prednisone_cortisone_internal.htm and http://www.mayohealth.org/mayo/askphys/qa990514.htm
: : : I had CTS a little over a year ago but I didn't see a doctor to get rid of it.
: : : Good luck - Joyce - firstname.lastname@example.org
: : : : My Dad recently had carpal tunnel surgery and it didn't work. Is this common? He has carpal tunnel in both hands. After having knee replacement surgery and leaning hard on his walker, he developed it. He wasn't able to wear the brace. He is scheduled to have the other hand done in a few weeks, but isn't sure he should if the first one didn't work.
: : I RECENTLY HAD AUTHOSCOPIC CARPEL TUNNEL SURGERY ON MY RIGHT WRIST, THE NUMBNESS AND TINGLING HAS DISAPPEARED. I PLAN TO HAVE THE LEFT WRIST DONE IN A FEW DAYS, MY WORK HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT HELPFUL IN THE WORKMANS COMP. CLAIMS. THE HORROR STORIES I SEE ON THE MESSAGE BOARD MAY BE THE SITUATION FOR SOME PEOPLE BUT NOT EVERYONE! I LIVED WITH THE PAIN FOR 10 YEARS BEFORE I PUT ASIDE MY FEARS OF THE SURGERY, I AM NOW VERY GLAD I DID, BECAUSE IT HAS CAUSED MY EMPLOYER TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE WAY TASKS ARE DONE AT MY WORK. THE CHANGES ARE FOR THE BETTER.
: : THE PAIN OF THE SURGERY IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE EVERY DAY PAIN OF DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT, HAND THERAPY IS A WASTE OF TIME, UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN 6 MONTHS.
: I am glad to see someone has had a good expierence, I am having the surgery late next month. I have lived with this condition for over ten years and finally have the courage to do something about it. i would like to read more like it.
: I am having carpal tunnel surgery this thursday and am petrified! I'm not in much pain right now although I have been in the past.I got carpal during my pregnancy in 1995 and it never went away. I rated 8.7 on the emg test - does anyone know what that means. Everyone seems to feel if I don't have the surgery things will get worse? HELP
