: : About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis. No boney changes but joint inflamation.Have been on different anti-inflamitories over the years. Five years ago was the carpal tunnel diagnosis. Used braces, changed jobs. Have also had trouble with muscle spasms in neck and shoulders. Was just diagnosed with Plantar Fasciatis which is an inflamation of the tendons and nerves at the heel. Am on max dose of Celebrex and on muscle relaxers for spasms in neck and shoulders.Recent blood tests showed inflamation. Dr diagnosed reactivated Epstien-Barr Virus. Question: Has anyone had a disease that causes all of these problems? Current Dr doesnt think arthritis is the cause. Neck xrays were normal. The carpal tunnel is bad enough that there is nerve damage in both hands.Had EMG last week and the Dr who performed it said my Dr will probably recommend surgery. The EMG caused bruises on both hands between the thumb and index finger.I am a 45 year old postmenapausal woman on HRT. Thanks
: Your case sounds a lot like mine. I am 51-years-old. I have typed most of my live and was symptom-free until recently. 21 months ago I had severe joint pain that somewhat moved around my body. It was diagnosed by a rheumatologist as an inflamatory disease, probably developing rheumatoid arthritis. I was started on an anti-inflamatory and Azulfadine. I also had enlarged very painful lumps on the back of my heel. The dr. xrayed them but didn't seem concerned. Then about 4 months ago I developed SEVERE carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm in excruciating pain most of the time, whether I'm typing or not. I, too, had nerve conduction studies which showed severe CTS and I am seeing a surgeon for consult next Thursday. Now you have me wondering if it's all related. I am now on Celebrex and lots of codiene or Vicodin.
Update from Sue since I posted this message all of my tests are back. Severe Carpal Tunnel both hands, surgery is recommended. Osteoarthritis in both hands but is mild. Rheumatoid arthritis also but didn't show up in the serum only the sed rate was elevated. Started on sulfasalazine but reacted to it. Now on an anti malarial drug changed from celebrex to another anti inflamatory and taking vicodin. Also my estrogen was very low so that Dr has started me on estrogen injections and blood tests every 2 weeks to monitor and regulate. He says this will help with the aching also. I am feeling a little better. I don't know what to think. My internist says the estrogen(or lack of) isnt causing the problems. Gynecologist says it is a big factor. I will probably be refered to a rhuemetologist soon. Sue
