: I've had carpel tunnel for about the last 10 years and since changing jobs last year I've got the pain, swelling, numbness and restless nights again. I've had PT 9 times already and the pain is worse. I received the ultra sound treatment with cortisone for the last 4 weeks plus doing the stretching exercises both with the therapist and at home and the pain has gotten worst; now both hands are going numb. Yesterday the therapist give me a treatment, electric stimulation with liquid cortisone. That didn't seem to help either. My physician has referred me to a hand specialist which I am to see Tuesday, Mar 30, 2000. I'm all for relieving the pain, but am afraid that if I have to have surgery it might be worse than what I now experience. If anyone can enlighten me with their experiences or let me know if there are any other options that I might consider. My physician, I might add that this is a worker's comp case, has also referred me to a cronic pain clinic that the main physician has denied. My main physician has said that acupuncture might work also; that is why she referred me to the cronic pain clinic vs surgery. But money is the biggest concern with my company, I guess, and they will go the less expensive method. Please advise. Thanks for listening.
I've lived with Carpal Tunnel for 13 years and I have tried just about everything there is to relieve it. Some worked a little longer than others but it always came back. I could control the pain with medication but the tingling and numbness would not go away. I finally had enough and had surgery on my left hand March 15th. I am having the other hand done April 5th. I went with the open incision surgery. I started physical therapy 1 week after surgery and I get my stitches out tommorow. As of this point I feel great! I have no pain, I have just a little swelling left. I can open and close my hand and as of right now I have about 75% range of motion in my wrist. Right now they are saying about another 3 weeks before I have all my strength back. I should have done this a long time ago.
My case also is Workers Comp. I've had no problems getting this approved,of course my company has supported me all the way, so that always helps.
I hope this answers some questions you may have.
If you have any others feel free to post them and I will help if I can!
