Post-op care after carpal tunnel surgery

After 20 years of hand numbness and shooting pains in my hand and fingers, I had open carpal tunnel surgery on March 23. The only instructions I got for post-op care were to keep my hand raised to prevent swelling (it worked), and to get the stitches out in two weeks. I don't have any more numbness, but I have wrist pain when I use my hand, and of course the incision is still tender. Should I be aware of some kind of helpful physical therapy? Should I still splint my wrist for awhile? I am obviously typing and have returned to my intensive computer work just 8 days later. Is this a mistake? I would appreciate helpful info from others' experienes.
