: My baby was diagnosed wiyh CP today. He is 9 months old. He moves around on the floor, and can get from room to room. He doesn't sit but he is starting to get up on all four's. They said he will probably never walk, this after a 15 minute assesment. Can they be wrong?

Kim -- three months ago, our then-9-month-old daughter was diagnosed with CP by someone who spent 15 minutes with her and gave us a fairly grave diagnosis. I subsequently took her to a number of specialists (pediatric neurologists, therapists, et cetera) and today we have quite a different picture. (she has a mild form of CP that is affecting the muscle tone only in her left leg and she very likely will be a walking and running little girl). Advocate for your child. Get other opinions. And then see that you begin intervention as early as your physicians and others deem appropriate. I hope you have an outcome like ours: a picture that shows challenge as well as a whole lot of hope. Best of luck to you and your family.
