: My baby was diagnosed wiyh CP today. He is 9 months old. He moves around on the floor, and can get from room to room. He doesn't sit but he is starting to get up on all four's. They said he will probably never walk, this after a 15 minute assesment. Can they be wrong?

My son was diagnosed with CP when he was 13 months old. He was crawling at about 10 months but mostly pulling himself on his tummy. He began physical and occupational therapy at 13 months and was walking by 22 months. His CP is considered mild and he only walks with a slight limp. He has had surgery on his heel cord to keep it flat (he was walking on his tip-toe). His foot is now flat and he can run and everything. When I asked his prognosis the doctors said "we don't know what he will be able to do", he should be able to walk someday. It is a good idea to start children as young as possible in therapy and I believe it helped my son very much. He is 9 year old now and unless you really look closely you can hardly tell he has CP. Sometimes I believe doctors say things just because they themselves do not know the long term prognosis. So hang in there.
