Hi!

Anything anyone with CP or with a loved one with CP can contribute would really help me.

I am a voice teacher. A parent contacted me before Christmas to arrange for voice lessons for her daughter as a Christmas present. She is 21, lives at home and has CP. Angie has been in choirs before and apparantly this brings her a lot of joy.

I am looking forward to working with her and being a part of that joy. I realize that each case of CP is very individual, but if anyone has had experience with this type of situation (speech therapy, choir/ singing participation, etc.) I would really appreciate some input. I want to be as versed as I can be in order to make the learning environment comfortable for her.

For those who may not know, true singing technique requires a great deal of voluntary/ involuntary muscle control through imagery and/ or direct control. Her parents may just want her to have the experience singing, but if she is physically and mentally capable of doing more than just matching pitch, I don't want to frustrate her by underestimating her capabilities.

Sorry this is so long-winded. I appreciate any help you can provide to both Angie and I.

With many thanks,
Jennifer Watkins
