It sounds like you need to get assertive with the school district. Under IDEA you have the right to appeal any decision the district makes regarding the education of your handicapped children. Have you treceived a copy of your rights under IDEA? If not, get a copy from your district ASAP. If you have them, read them. Next, request an appointment with the director of special services. If he/she is not receptive to your request, your next step would be to request a hearing. This will be at no expense to you. The district will probably bring in a state mediator first--it is cheaper. If you are not pleased with the result, you need to request a hearing. At that point, an getting an attorney may be in your best interest. Again, the district is required to pay your expenses.
