Hi Dena:
The damage to the brain has been done. The only way for his condition to worsen is do to consequences of his gait or posture. It took 5 yrs for the doctors to diagnose my daughter with CP. As a consequence of her toe walking her right heel never got the pressure it needed to grow properly. It is the size of a 3yrs old's. So, I highly recommend that you get your son walking and putting pressure on his heels so they don't attorphy. I hope this is of some help to you. Take care.
