In Reply to: 3 year old son w/mild CP. Will it get worse? posted by Dena on February 26, 2000 at 09:12:29:

: My son was diagnosed when he was 1 1/2 years. He walks on his on but he holds his arms straight and in back of him and he also walks with his feet in. I asked the doctors if his condition will ever get any worse and they cannot seem to answer that. Does anyone know whether the condition worsens with age?

My son was diagnosed w\CP when he was the same age as yours. My son could not walk or talk until he was about 4yrs. old over the years my child as learn to walk and talk. He his in main stream school. My child does better year after year. Just before he starts to climb a new hill in his life there is a slip backwards, but it only lasts for a week are two. I have noticed that children that have physical disabilites are very smart child and strive in educational enviroments. My advice to you is work hard with you child every day in the following areas, physical therapy, mental stimulation. You might find your child to be stubburn but in the long run this will be a gift. Always remmeber that it was noithing that you did to cause this. Do not dwell on the why and what did I do feelings. Just keep thinking the child will go very far in life. And you are most likly the only person in your family that has the stregnth to do this special job that was given to you.
