: I have a 28 year old brother who has had several problems all his life. For some reason or another, my parents never persued a diagnoses when he was young.(military health care issues) He has always protected his left side and held his hand funny occasionally, has a catract in one of his eyes since birth, and has several learning disabilities. He gets fired or quits every job he has had after a few months. My mom said that he had a seizure when he was newborn and I know she had some problems with him during and after birth. I am thinking that he may have CP or something similar. We would like to get a proper diagnosis, but health insurance is a problem. Does this sound like CP, or am I really off base with my thoughts? I would appreciate any feedback on this. I really want my brother to get the help he needs.
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOUR BROTHER HAS SOME FORM OF CP. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES. THE PART OF THE BRAIN THAT IS EFFECTED WILL DETERMINE WHAT PROBLEMS HE WILL HAVE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET A DIAGNOSIS FOR HIM. HE MAY BE ABLE TO GET SOME SSI ASSISTANCE IF THIS IS THE REASON HE CAN'T KEEP A JOB. THERE ARE MANY EMOTIONAL THINGS INVOLVED WITH CP. GOOD LUCK.
