Kim,
My son Nicholas is 5 years old. He was diagnosed with CP when he was 18months old. He had just started taking a few steps at that time. Luckily his form of CP is very mild. He needs a brace on his right leg and he tires very easily. Thus he won't be the star basketball player. However he is very smart. Last week he started spelling and now we can't get him to quit.:)
My best advice to you is to get your child in Early Intervention. I live in Texas and in our state it is a program that is offered free of charge. They have Occupational, Speech, and Physical therapy. Your pediatrician would know about this program. If she doesn't call the school system, they are aware of it.
Don't let anybody tell you that your child won't walk. Nicholas did the army crawl until he was 18 months old. Now he can run - very fast. He does fall quite often but he gets right back up.
Good luck to you,
Dawn
