: Is there anyone who can tell me what it is like to use an emergency department from the point of view of someone who has cerebral palsy or the point of view of their family.
: I am a nurse who is trying to make the emergency department a better place for people with special needs.

Believe the family when they tell you that the person IS sick. My experience was that because my daughter has C.P.and is non-verbal that she didn't understand what was being said. She was very ill and couldn't respond quickly to questions.
1) Never assume the person doesn't understand. 2) Believe the parent when they tell you something is very wrong even if the x-ray doesn't show it.
My daughter ended up needing a volvulus, but in emergency they told me she had a bad flu!!
