: : My son is 6 years old and has Cerebal Palsy and he is very spastic. The Drs. feel i should have a baclofen pump placed in his spine. Does anyone have any experience with this procedure? Do you feel it is a good idea?
: My son just turned 18. He is solid muscle and very spastic. It is very difficult for him, and for us in care giving. Recently we went to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and had him tested to see if the pump would help him. If you have have not done so, you should have the test. It is like a test drive for a car. You can see right way if your son is a candidate for the pump. Unfortunately, since our child is so muscular, the first test had no effect, so the doctor increased the dose and we tried it again the next day. This time he you could see him relax as the baclofen took effect. We are now scheduled for surgery in March to have the pump installed.. Good luck with your son.
How did the surgery go? How is your son responding to the pump? Several Doctors have recommended that my son get the Bacolfen Pump. My is 9yrs old and is very tight to the point now that he will be having surgery to lengthen his hamstrings.
