: I need suggestions on changing my son's habit of walking too fast for his condition. He has spasticity and starts out fairly slow in his walking but gets faster as he goes along. Then the quality of his walking is poor and not as safe as it should be. Verbal cues only do a little to help.

I had the same problem very recently with myself. I have spastic c.p., and was really walking
too fast. I was walking so fast that I fell twice, then I took my mom's advice of slowing down.
Perhaps if you get a video camera and record his walking, he will pay more attention to your
requests to slow down. I had a fairly bad attitude about my c.p when I was younger, and never
took any advice from my parents about improving my situation. Now I take advice better,
although I like to figure things out for myself. Does your son walk too fast all the time, or just
with friends, or other situations? I know I sometimes walk too fast if I am trying to keep up with
my friends or family.
