: Hi, my name is Kirstin and I am a final year physiotherapy student in South Africa. Next year I hope to work in a school for the physically disabled in Zimbabwe.
: I would like to set up some support groups for the kids, educational workshops for the parents as well as fun activities and sports for the children. I am most interested in getting the teenagers involved.
: I would really love to hear from anyone as to their experiences at school or as a parent, any ideas or suggestions anyone might have etc.
: Even if I could get to know some CP teenagers - that would be great.
: Drop a line - Thanks

I have mild cerebral palsy, and I think that your ideas are great! I think kids will love support
groups and sports. I volunteer with a friend, who teaches adaptive swimming. This is a blast for
me, as well as for the kids. I think it would be neat to have intramurals or sports teams for individuals
with c.p. at school, same as the other kids. I did not have any fun activities/support groups at
school when I was a kid. My suggestions for getting sports programs
started is to look at magazines for teaching students with special needs. Good luck!
