In Reply to: 8 Year Old Feeling Social Isolation... posted by ALLEN on November 29, 1999 at 22:51:03:

Hi! I have Spastic Diplegia too. As i was a kid, i have experienced similar problems with social isolation, etc... I have developed some strategies to overcome this. Primarily, i have developed some habilities in that i was really good, e.g. to organize a stamps album... and the other children have finally noted that i was able to make a lot of things even with my spastic legs and clumsy gait... i really made some good friends! I think your son can make something very special!
Hope this helps.
Best wishes to you and your son.

: Hello,
: I'm looking for anybody with suggestions on how to help me help my 8 Year old boy cope with the Social Implications of CP... He has Spastic Diplegia which is affecting only his legs... He is pretty ambulatory and uses no support equipment, but still He feels he has no friends because of this and kids are beginning to tease him somewhat...
: We continue to stand behind him and work with him on this but he is really taking it hard lately... Please, If anybody can provide us with some ideas, we would greatly appreciate them... Thanks So Much...
