: : : I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANY PARENTS THAT HAVE USED THIS? CAN YOU TELL ME HOW YOU LIKE IT AND HOW LONG BEFORE YOU SAW A CHANGE IN YOUR CHILD. THANK YOU. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL.

: : :My nine week old was placed on Neocate about two weeks ago for allergic collitis. He developed bloody stools at two weeks of age, and went from Similac to Nutramagin. This did not help. The GI specialist switched him to Neocate, and the blood has stopped, but now he is very uncomfortable with every bowel movement and passing gas. It is also very thin, and he looks to eat every three hours now, when before on the Nutramagin he would go 3-4 hours. The cost is outrageous, and the insurance will not cover it. I would appreciate any feedback from other parents whose children are on it, or were on it in the past.

: : :I have started my 13 week on Neocate and she also seems to have trouble passing gas and bm's. The bm's also have turned a dark forrest green color. The Gi dr. said constipation might be a side effect, and my pediatrician said we could give her 4 ounces of water with 1 tbsp. of cayro(sp?) syrup to help her pass her stool. She had terrible pain and bloody stools when I was breastfeeding her and drinking milk. The pain with bm's subsided with Nutramigen, but they seem to be worse and further apart with Neocate. She only goes about every 40 hours or so. My GI dr. said the color was ok, did your child's change also? We have only been on neocate 5 days, but I am worried it is not going to work. We havn't tested her stools yet for blood, as it is too soon to tell. She is eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and about 3-4 ounces. This is slightly more frequent than nutramigen. Please let me know how it is going for you. Allison

My daughter has been on neocate for about 5 months now. At 3 weeks she was diagnosed with allergic colitis. After trying all formulas on the market, she was put on neocate and improved within a week. It is extremely expensive, however there is hope. If you are not already doing so, buy straight from the company. It's $115 per case minimum order of 2 cases per purchase. Also contact your state representatives and congressmen. I did and am in the process of appealing my insurance company to pay for the formula. I am currently losing, on my final appeal, however, my appeal is with the department of health and they have ruled previously to make the insurance company pay for neocate. There is legislation on the appeals process to protect you. The insurance companies expect you to give up. Keep fighting and you could win. Get letters from your doctor stating the medical necessity. People win this fight all the time. We have to have faith that justice will be served for our children. Neocate babies are an issue that needs to be addressed. Believe me, it does not get any cheaper and the prognosis is not always that they'll outgrow the allergy. Some kids outgrow it by six months, some don't outgrow it at all. It's best to fight now to ensure help later. Neocate can make babies healthy. My daughter is in the 90% for growth and 75% for weight. That's even with a reflux disorder. I'll keep you posted. Don't give up.
