Hi,
My 12 year old daughter has had her period for 2 years now, but recently has experienced terribly painful menstrual cramps. While she has always had some discomfort during her periods, the past 2 months have been unbearable for her. She ends up crying and in bed for 2 days. Over the counter ibuprofen, midol, and other similar drugs have given her NO relief. I finally got her in to see the pediatrician and he strongly recommended that I take her to a gynecologist. I had a feeling he would say that, and I agree it sounds like that is what she needs. However, she is extremely shy and very very worried about going for a gyn exam. I have explained to her over and over that it will be fine and the doctor will be very gentle with her. This of course is not very reassuring to a 12 year old! Also, she's at the age where she DOES NOT want me in the room with her while she is examined. I guess I would like to know if any other mothers have taken their young daughters to a gyn and EXACTLY what happened during the appointment. It would be helpful if I can give her a little more specific idea of what will happen. Sorry this was long and thank you in advance for all your help.
