I recently became a foster parent of a young girl, age 13, that lost both of her parents over the past year.
Her mother committed suicide in October, 1999. The girl is very traumatized and rarely speaks, and is very
withdrawn. She is also refusing to eat and drink even though we have tried asking about favorite meals etc.
I took her to the physician and was told that she is possibly sufferring from PTSD and anorexia stemming from
her parents' deaths. Does anyone here have any ideas about how to help a young child deal with these issues
or how we might approach the eating and PTSD? She is very shy and timid and gets embarrassed very easily.
We have tried therapy but she refuses to talk while there. Also she is having nightmares and flashbacks but never
wants to discuss them with us. Any solutions? Thanks for any advice or help you may have to offer.
