My 14 yr old daughter is scheduled for knee surgery to relive the chronic pain of chondromalasia patella. Physical therapy did not give her adequate results, her stomach cannot tolerate analgesics, so her orthopedic surgeon says surgery is only answer. I have a great deal of anxiety about her having surgery, but she believes she cannot live with the pain. The ortho surgeon says this condition is common in girls her age and would probably subside by her early 20's. Has anyone had experience with this condition? Can you offer any alternatives to surgery or comment on its success or failure?
