I was in my mid teens when I first started dealing with chondormalcia and I was 16 when I had my first lateral release. I ended up going on to have open realignments on both of my knees. Now at the age of 28, I have severe chondromalcia in one knee and have had to have two open surgeries in the last year to correct the allignment. Physical therapy post op will be very important to her recovery. You may want to do a web search under both patella femoral syndrome and chondromalcia to help educate yourself and your daughter.

I put a link to another bulletin board- there are several posters there your daughters age who have chondromalcia as well as several people who have had lateral releases.

Good Luck~
Christine
