: A very quick question here. My daughter's mother has sent to my home (for my weekend visits) a prescription that was written last December (99) a prescription for Lactulose. The dosage reads ... 2 tablespoonfuls twice a day. The mother's instructions are: 1 tablespoonful twice a day ....AND... she tells me to give her a teaspoonful of Senokot twice a day also.

: Is this "normal" to change dosage on the bottle .. and mix prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs?

: (One note here, I have to mention. I feel that the mother "wants" to keep my daughter constipated for reasons of the attention she gets because her daughter is "so sick". She has twice tried to get the doctors to do a surgical procedure called MACE, on Megan, and almost succeded this past month. When I found out, and talked to the doctors, and told them that I was not getting any medications for my daughter, even when I had the kids for most of the summer, they became very concerned. Also, while my daughter is with me, I have no problems with constipation with her. I understand MSBP, and I know how hard it is to prove ... and the mother is being investigated by Child Protective Services for not filling the scripts written by the doctors.)

If you are this worried, call the doctor yourself and ask this question. Plus ask your local pharmacist about the interaction of the medications. Keep us posted on how the investigation goes. Seems to me like it would be best if your daughter lived with you full-time and had supervised visitation with the Mom, if the Mom is cleared of the charges, if not then no visitation.
