: My son has been ill for a couple of weeks now. His symptoms started out with diarrhea, frequent urination, abdominal pain, leg and joint pain, dizziness, then progressed to weakness and needing help while walking. All the symptoms have gone now except the weakness, leg, joint, and foot pain, and some abdominal pain, and some dizziness. He has gotten stronger and needs only to hold on with one hand now while walking, but they have not been able to find out what is wrong or was wrong with him. They did several tests, including CDC, cat scan, mri on the spine, and many more. They are trying to say that it is in his head, but we disagree because he has and still has a love for life, learning, and his family. He is outgoing and caring. He is an honor roll student. He is well behaved, but a typical middle schooler with the normal behavior that goes with it. If he doesn't seem like he is getting any stronger, what should we do? Should we go ahead and take him to a child psychiatrist or have more tests or both. This is a concern. We don't feel that this is "in his head" because he is very open and honest with his emotions. If he is upset or angry, out it comes he holds nothing back. However, we realize that we need to keep an open mind as well. Thank you for your help
Have you asked your son's doctor about fibromyalgia? My mother and sister have it, and I'm starting to realize from their situations that not all doctors are familiar with it. Also doctors tend to think middle aged and older get it. It's worth looking into. Good luck.
